The relations among parenting attitudes, children's character strengths and children's maladjustment behaviors

Abstract
The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of parenting attitudes and children`s character strengths on children`s maladjustment behaviors, and moderating effects of children`s character strengths on the relationship between parenting attitudes and children`s maladjustment behaviors. Questionnaires were administered to 530 5th and 6th grade elementary school students in Seoul. The main results were as follows: First, there were significant gender differences in autonomy-control, justice, temperance, transcendence, internalizing and externalizing problems. Second, while courage, gender, justice, wisdom/ knowledge, autonomy-control, and transcendence were significant predictors of children`s internalizing problems, temperance, autonomy-control, courage, and wisdom/knowledge were significant predictors of their externalizing problems. Finally, temperance had moderating effects on the relationship between parenting attitudes and children`s maladjustment behaviors.
